Man Living Off-Grid in His Incredible Self-Built Cabin Video.

Man Living Off-Grid in His Incredible Self-Built Cabin
This man built a beautiful off-grid cabin with the help of friends for $65,000 CAD including the cost of the land. There was no road access to his lot so he had to bring in all of the building materials using a 4-wheeler with a small trailer, and then load them on a material elevator to bring them up a cliff to where he wanted to build his home. You can find out more about this cabin on Instagram here: https://ift.tt/31rCa4L The cabin can collect and store 3,000 litres of rainwater from the roof. One of the water tanks is inside the house to prevent the water from freezing during the winter, and the other two are in a shed that is attached to the cabin so that warm air can be circulated with fans to prevent the other two tanks from freezing as well. For heat, he has a wood stove, and he brings the firewood up to the cabin using the material elevator. For power, he has a solar power system and a backup generator for cloudy days. This micro cabin has two lofts, one is a living room, and one is the bedroom. On the main floor is a kitchen with propane 2-burner cooktop and 110 volt fridge, a bathroom with a sink and a bath (but no toilet because he prefers to have the toilet outside), and a spacious living area with the wood stove and dining table. He lives in the tiny house with his girlfriend and enjoys the simple lifestyle and the challenge of living sustainably. Thanks for watching! Best Way to Fertilizer Your Garden with Free Leaves - Leaf Mulch Gardening Video.

Best Way to Fertilizer Your Garden with Free Leaves - Leaf Mulch Gardening
John from https://ift.tt/13mBQAf takes a field trip to Kelowna, British Columbia, Canada to share with you a front-yard urban vegetable garden that is powered by FREE leaves from the neighbors. In this episode, you will learn about deep mulch gardening using fall leaves and how you can have a pest-resistant garden and grow high quality, good tasting fruits and vegetables by using this free resource that most people simply "throw-away". You will get a tour of Angel's Roost garden that has been gardening using the power of free fallen leaves since 2002, for 17 years has religiously been building soil fertility and adding leaves two times a year to have some of the best gardening soil I have ever seen. You will learn about many of the different growing techniques that are being used in this urban garden, including growing vertically up trellis structures, growing on roofs, growing in pots, growing in containers, growing permaculture style, and much, mulch more! In this episode, you will get a full overview tour of the garden and what is growing and how it is being grown while covering the ground with leaves to encourage soil microorganisms to thrive. You will discover how to keep your soil microbes, earthworms, and even some crops alive even in the winter when there is snow on the ground by using leaves as an insulation layer to protect the earth most valuable resource: the soil. You will learn how growing in crystals may "energize" you food and grow larger and more nutritious food. You will discover a variety of corn that grows 25 feet tall in a growing season. You will learn how to properly use leaves that you can collect free in the fall season to enrich your garden soil for many years to come. Finally, John will interview Daniel Tomelin the mulch gardener who teaches people how to grow using mulch as well as ferment foods to help the people and the planet. After watching this episode, you will no longer have doubts about the power of mulching with leaves and using the deep leaf mulch gardening method to get some of the best results in your vegetable garden. Wildlife Affecting Livelihood Video.

Wildlife Affecting Livelihood
This Q&A is pulled from a collection of questions posed to me by students of my Online Permaculture Design Course (PDC). Learn more with my free four-part Masterclass series, here: https://ift.tt/320h1zf Question: If an "ethical" neighbor decides to let grass and weeds grow out tall enough to create a nice habitat for wildlife that may cross over and eat my crops or my poultry (affecting the yield of my system and my family's livelihood) in an ethical bioregion is the onus on me to provide defensive solutions if the neighbor refuses to manage it or should I resort to passing laws to enforce it? What kind of ethical dispute resolution system is ideal in a permaculture bioregion? Installing Swales in Clay & Poor Draining Soils Video.

Installing Swales in Clay & Poor Draining Soils
This Q&A is pulled from a collection of questions posed to me by students of my Online Permaculture Design Course (PDC). Learn more with my free four-part Masterclass series, here: https://ift.tt/320h1zf Question: Thinking about swales for a food forest in my poorly draining clay soils, we have heavy winter rains that mud things up followed by dry summers that completely dry the soil until it cracks. I'm worried that before the trees are established the water won't be able to infiltrate and we'll only worsen our water logging problem with the swale. Is deep ripping the swale trenches the answer to this? Should I be considering a different measure with swales or something completely different avoiding swale installation entirely?
