Their goal was to make it as comfortable as possible so they've got a loft with extra headroom that allows you to sit up in bed, a ladder staircase combo that's comfortable to go up and down, and a hidden dishwasher and washer dryer as well. One of the most striking features of the tiny house is the rooftop deck they built into the roofline which provides outdoor space and great views no matter where the tiny house is parked. To waterproof the deck, they used a product called Duradek: https://duradek.com/ The house is a hybrid so it can run off solar power for short periods of time but it currently only has 500 watts of solar and a couple of batteries so it would need to be upgraded to be completely off-grid. The water system can switch between a fresh and greywater tank, or be hooked up to municipal water. The house also has a Separett composting toilet and a propane water heater and stove. They also have a combination heater/air conditioner unit in the loft to heat and cool the tiny house. Another feature that we love is the large casement windows that can be tilted open even in the rain. This is a beautiful tiny house and if you're interested in checking it out, they have it up on Airbnb here: https://ift.tt/3216T9G Thanks for watching! Budget DIY Camper Van is Surprisingly Functional & Beautiful - Van Life Tour Video.

Budget DIY Camper Van is Surprisingly Functional & Beautiful - Van Life Tour
Tour this wonderfully unique DIY campervan! And you can go to http://bit.ly/2BVKD4R and/or use code EXPLORINGALTERNATIVES to get 75% off a 3-year plan.  Protect yourself online today! Heather and Curtis are an artistic couple who built and moved into a van to save money and prioritize their creative pursuits. Without much money to start, they bought a rusty old Sprinter van for $10,000 CAD and converted it into a cozy home on wheels using parts from old RVs, secondhand and reclaimed materials, and items bought at the dollar store and Ikea. We were surprised at how cozy and functional their space was when we first stepped inside and almost couldn't believe all of the things they fit in the camper. The kitchen counters are massive, they have an oven and a bar fridge, there's a big couch with a Lagun rotating table for work and entertainment, a litter box for their cat, and a toilet for themselves, and loads of storage for food and clothing. They had us laughing the entire time we hung out with them and we hope you have fun getting to know this amazing couple, and that you enjoy the tour of this really unique homemade campervan. Compost Worm Tower Video.

Compost Worm Tower
Learn more about Permaculture with my free 4-part Masterclass series, here: http://bit.ly/2YzjPkq For those that would like an overview of worm farms, head here: https://youtu.be/Z5ozNM-Hb0w Using two buckets, one slightly larger than the other, it’s possible to make a worm farm tower. Holes should be drilled in the smaller bucket, and it can be slipped into the larger one. The smaller bucket will hold the worm farm, and the juices will drain into the larger bucket. In order to prevent the worms from falling through into the lower bucket, double over a piece of shade cloth or tight mesh twice and put it at the bottom of the worm farm. This will allow the juices to seep through but not the worms. Then, the liquid can be used whenever desirable. It’s really just two buckets, but it handles a small bit of food waste and provides both liquid and solid fertilizer. Key Takeaways: • A worm farm tower is made of two buckets, one slightly larger than the other. • The smaller bucket has holes drilled in the bottom and should have some type of screening installed to prevent worms from falling down into the larger bucket. • A worm farm tower is an easy way to cycle a small amount of food and get both liquid and solid fertilizer. Compost Worm Farming Video.

Compost Worm Farming
Learn more about Permaculture with my free 4-part Masterclass series, here: http://bit.ly/2YzjPkq Compost worm farms transform household waste into a resource, a very valuable resource, a nutrient-rich fertilizer (liquid and solid) while also closing the loop on food waste cycles in households. Compost worms are a great way to make your own fertilizer for organic gardening, and they are equally as good for recycling food waste at home. The system will continuously create both liquid and solid fertilizer and close the food-waste loop. Compost worms—red wrigglers, tiger, Indian night crawlers, African night crawlers, etc.—are not earthworms. They eat their own weight every day, and the only thing they don’t like to eat are citrus peels and stuff from the onion family. Every day, the system can produce a few liters of fermented worm juice. This can be used as is or watered down. Additionally, the solid results inside the bucket are worm castings, something that, in many ways, is better than compost. It’s got loads of beneficial bacteria. You can use an ordinary bathtub, set up to drain as normal. Get a piece of wire and wrap it in screen to cover up the bath plug to act as filter. Fill the tub halfway with cow or horse manure (anything else would have to be aged) and add some worms. Then, top it off with food scraps each day, and the worms will come up for it. Fill it up with water. The liquid draining out, picking up nutrient from the worm castings, and it makes excellent fertilizer. This is better than manure tea because it doesn’t go anaerobic and it has a neutral pH level. The final touch is adding a dense shade cloth over the top, protecting the worms from the sun and predators. Key Takeaways: • Composting worms are a great way to close the cycle of food-waste in your household and create daily liquid fertilizer, as well as incremental solid fertilizer (worm castings). • A worm farm is easy to make out of an old bathtub: The liquid should drain out of the tub as normal, caught in a container, and the castings can be harvested about every three months. • It’s important to cover the tub with dense shade cloth because the worms do not like the sun. Learn more with my free four-part Masterclass series, here: http://bit.ly/2YzjPkq Question: What do you think of Holistic Management? In terms of solutions for grasslands and desertification is it the ultimate solution for the global crises that Savory makes it sound like it is in his TED talk? Secondarily, are you familiar with "the holistic management decision framework"? Apparently, this is not published on the web anywhere you have to buy the book and when I have asked related questions I have been told "you need the whole framework" to understand which as I mentioned can only be obtained by buying in... this would be called 'mal educato' in Italy. DIY Tiny House with the Most INCREDIBLE Interior Design! Video.

DIY Tiny House with the Most INCREDIBLE Interior Design!
Braelyn and James are two artists who poured their creativity into this beautiful DIY tiny house build. For just under $60,000 CAD they built a 32-foot tiny house with two staircases, two patio doors, and two king-sized lofts with a bridge connecting them. The interior design was inspired by Mykonos Island in Greece, which is where the idea came to have archways, white walls, a painted stone floor, and greenery overhanging the living spaces. Follow Braelyn and James on Instagram here: http://bit.ly/31C5plW http://bit.ly/2IMEjA0 After feeling trapped in the rent cycle in Toronto where the monthly cost of an apartment made it difficult to save money and get ahead, they spent several years dreaming and making tiny house models using foam core. When they were finally able to save some money and received a small insurance settlement, they took the plunge and started building a tiny house. The couple was lucky that they were able to find a free indoor space to build their tiny house through friends of theirs, and the four of them eventually collaborated together to open a business at the same time - Crystal Cave. Now the final step is that Braelyn and James are looking for land in an unorganized township in Ontario where it can be legal to live in a tiny house so they can live full-time in their beautiful tiny home on wheels. In the meantime, we were super excited to tour their tiny house and see all of the creative ideas they incorporated into the build. Thanks for watching!
