This homemade beard oil recipe penetrates the hair shaft, making it softer to touch. The oil also makes it easier to trim and reduces static.
If you have ever been in (close) contact with a man’s beard, you know beards can be hard and scratchy. Coarse beard hair can be softened with the right kind of attention, so I created this simple DIY method to soften it up.
Softening Beard Hair Naturally
Beards are made from different hair than what is on our heads and the rest of our bodies. Some scientists think it’s harsher so it protects the face from the elements. This makes sense as our forefathers didn’t have the luxuries that we do, like heated homes and vehicles. Today we aren’t exposed to the elements as much, so such protection isn’t as necessary. Men still sport beards, but now they can be softened without worrying about losing protection.
One way to soften the hairs is to use a beard oil recipe. The oil penetrates the hair shaft, making it softer and nicer to touch. The oil also makes it easier to trim and reduces static – a nice bonus in the winter.
Homemade Beard Oil Recipe
Ingredients
- 2 Tbsp argan oil
- 2 Tbsp grapeseed oil
- 4 drops essential oil (of your choice)
- 2 Tbsp fractionated coconut oil
- 2 Tbsp safflower oil (or sunflower oil)
Instructions
- Combine all ingredients in a small bottle or glass dropper bottle. Cap and shake to mix.
- To use, pour a small amount of the beard oil recipe into your hand and rub palms together. Stroke your hands through the beard, through all of the strands. It will feel greasy at first but will soak in quickly.
